Microsoft 365 offers a cloud based storage platform. Instead of your documents, spreadsheets and pictures saving to the hard drive in your computer, information is also uploaded to the cloud.
When you access a document locally or via the Cloud Portal, this information is synchronised from the cloud and synced locally with your device.
Syncing allows you and your team to have access to company files anywhere, anytime, from any device.

The Microsoft 365 cloud based storage platform is made up of three key elements:
OneDrive, SharePoint and the OneDrive App.

What is OneDrive:
Personal Cloud Storage
- Your personal, cloud based storage platform stores your files, documents, spreadsheets, photos, so only you have access.
- With OneDrive, share your personal files temporarily with your team to navigate in real time.

What is SharePoint:
A Team Collaboration Platform
- Your personal, cloud based storage platform stores your files, documents, spreadsheets, photos, so only you have access.
- With OneDrive, share your personal files temporarily with your team to navigate in real time.

What is the OneDrive Icon I can see in the Windows task bar?
This app is the hub of your cloud based storage platform, for the documents, spreadsheets and pictures you work with.
All the tasks you ask of OneDrive Personal Cloud Storage and SharePoint Team Collaboration Platform are performed through the OneDrive App:
- Uploading documents, saved from your computer to the preferred storage platform.
- Downloading documents, pulled from a storage platform, and sent to your computer so you can continue working on documents locally.
The OneDrive App is a two-toned blue cloud. A syncing symbol confirms your files are syncing with online storage and locally to your device.
Clicking on the cloud icon confirms the status of the app and provides a working history of files you have opened.
Note: When a red x appears over the cloud app on your laptop/device. It means a file has not synced with your computer – the app is not talking to your computer; you will need to click on this red x to sort out the issue or contact VisionLab for assistance.
